What are Aikido & Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu?

KEY DIFFERENCES

ORIGINS: Aikido was founded in the early 20th century (officially named in 1942) by Morihei Ueshiba, who integrated techniques and aiki principles from Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu (often called aiki jui jitsu) is an older, combative samurai aart focused on practical battlefield survival. PHILOSOPHY and INTENT: Aikido emphasizes harmony, blending, and redirecting an opponent's momentum withut causing severe harm. Aiki-jujutsu is more direct, aggressive, and docused on early neutrralizaiton, joint-breaakin, strikes (atemi), and immediate incapacitation. TECHNIQUE and APPLICATION: Aikido training is typically more fluid, cooperative, and circular, often avoiding competitions to preserve self-development. Aiki-jujutsu relies on strict, painful joint manipulations, direct structural control, and bone/limb breaking maneuvers designed for close-combat efficacy.
